World’s Smallest USB Receiver for Mice Simplifies Life for On-The-Road Notebook Users
The next big thing in notebook mice is really small. Logitech, the manufacturer of computer mice, introduced the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks. The mouse’s plug-and-forget nano-receiver provides highly mobile notebook PC and MacBook users with a mouse that simplifies life on the road. Because the USB receiver is so small and is nearly flush with the notebook, people no longer need to constantly plug and unplug it when moving from place to place.

“More and more laptop users are abandoning the touch pad in favor of a cordless notebook mouse,” said Rory Dooley, Logitech senior vice president and general manager of control devices. “However, with most notebook mice, the size of the receiver forces people to plug and unplug the receiver each time they use the laptop. Because we were able to make the nano-receiver so small, it can remain plugged into the laptop at all times so on-the-go notebook users save valuable time and never have to worry about where the receiver is.”

Plug-and-Forget Nano-Receiver
The VX Nano mouse’s plug-and-forget nano-receiver is the world’s smallest USB receiver for mice (when compared with other 27 MHz USB receivers for notebook mice commercially available as of March 1, 2007). When plugged into a laptop, the nano-receiver is nearly flush against the notebook – protruding just 8 mm from the edge of the computer. As a result, notebook users no longer have to worry about the receiver getting lost or snagged. Instead, people can plug in the nano-receiver once and then forget about it – the VX Nano mouse is always ready for use.

Advanced Scrolling and Performance
To maximize productivity, the VX Nano mouse features the MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel, which Logitech introduced last fall in the Logitech MX Revolution cordless laser mouse and VX Revolution cordless laser mouse for notebooks. When the wheel is in hyper-fast scrolling mode, people can fly through long documents with the flick of a finger. To shift to the precise, click-to-click scrolling mode, people need only press and click the scroll wheel. The mouse’s Forward and Back buttons enable effortless navigation of Web pages and documents, while a One-Touch search button allows people to instantly display results from a favorite search engine. A laser engine ensures smooth cursor control and precision tracking on virtually any surface, and Logitech’s 2.4 GHz digital cordless technology provides a robust wireless connection.

Low Profile, Ultra-Portable Design
A premium mouse for the on-the-go road warrior, the VX Nano mouse’s low-profile, ultra-portable design ensures that it slips easily into a notebook bag, pocket or purse, while the contoured shape and soft rubber grip provide exceptional comfort. The base of the VX Nano mouse has a trap door that, when opened, reveals two AAA batteries and a storage compartment for the nano-receiver.

Lithium batteries seem to be everywhere these days. We can find them in our cellphones, laptops, portable media players and etc. We all want to make our batteries last as long as possible, but some well intentioned advice from friends, could be harming your Lithium battery’s life span.

1. Battery Memory – When I first got my new cellphone, my friend recommended to fully drain the battery before recharging it. His reasoning was connected to the idea of battery memory. Allowing the battery to fully discharge then recharging to max, supposedly gives you the complete battery capacity. Otherwise, if you simply charged from the half way point to max battery capacity, the battery would treat the half way point as the empty point, thus cutting your battery capacity in half.

Problem is battery memory doesn’t apply to Lithium batteries, this advice was meant for Nickel based batteries. Fully discharging your Lithium battery frequently can actually be quite harmful to your battery’s health, possibly rendering it completely unusable if energy levels go too low.
The good news is today’s lithium batteries have a safety circuit in place to insure the battery doesn’t reach the point of no return. The safety circuit isn’t fool proof of course, if you leave your battery completely drained for a few days, even the circuit’s protective measures won’t save it.

2. Battery Calibrating – There is some benefits to fully discharging your lithium battery periodically, for laptops this can be especially important. If you start to notice your battery meter is becoming more and more inaccurate, it may be time for some battery calibration. By allowing your lithium battery to fully drain, this will help the battery recalibrate allowing for more accurate measurements of battery life. This should be done once every 30 charges or when you notice battery readings are off.

3. Consequences of Heat – Another enemy of Lithium battery life is heat. If you were to leave your laptop plugged in and running for a year, you should expect the lithium battery capacity to be anywhere between 60% to 80% of it’s original max capacity. This is why people that use their laptops as desktop replacements will notice greatly reduced battery life performance after one year of use. This issue can be resolved by removing the battery while using a corded power source. Now you may want to check with your manufacturer ahead of time to check for safety concerns, some manufacturers have mentioned problems such as moisture and dust collecting in the battery casing.

4. Battery Storage – If you plan on not using the Lithium battery for prolonged periods of time, then you’ll want to have the charge level at 40% and place the battery in the fridge (not freezer). Storing the battery at 100% charge level applies unnecessary stress and can cause internal corrosion. On the other hand, if the charge is too low, the battery can become permanently unusable, due to battery self discharge. This is why manufacturers recommend storing your Lithium battery at 40% charge, rather than either extreme.

Quick Overview

Try to avoid frequent full discharging of the Lithium battery.
For lithium battery meter calibration, periodically do a full battery discharge, every 30 charges, to increase meter accuracy.
Avoid heat, heat is the Lithium battery’s enemy, the temperature in a car can easily rise 50F in a single hour, in some cases reaching 140F.
If you plan to place your lithium battery in storage, be sure to have the charge at 40% and stored in the fridge (not freezer) for maximum battery longevity.

Notebook heat stroke has become a major concern for all notebook producers. New Generations of processors, Hard disk, Graphic cards, wireless mini cards, and bla bla bla, all are going toward high performance, thus result in high heat productions. Most of the hardware manufactures are trying hard to reduce heat production by new theories, new type of materials.

One of my friend’s notebook automatic shut off due to high fever, it is very troublesome for her. She need run here and there to use other people computer to complete the assignment. But in this case, still ok, at least notebook will protect itself by shut off immediately. Another friend of mine, his notebook just burnt down half way playing games. This one worse, this notebook did even know how to protect itself, might be temperature reading failure.

For my own notebook, my notebook fan never stop running at highest speed, due to high heat productions. Temperature remains 70 degree Celsius. After i opened out the casing and checked the ventilation system, i found out the dust accumulated there became a filter (5mm thick, dense dust)

Many of my friends including me bought cheap notebook coolers, which has very simple theory without effective aerodynamic. 2 or 3 fans blowing up from the bottom that all. I had tested the notebook cooler with my notebook, it can only reduce around 2-4 degree Celsius, not more. Some of my friends, they bought a small fan(for human) blowing actively towards the notebook against the flow of notebook fan. It is very very effective when the small fan is blowing into the ventilation holes. But once you off your small fan, your notebook temperature will increase greatly. WHY? Because you are blowing dirty air into the notebook ventilation system without filters, and your notebook ventilation holes are full of dust, notebook fan do not have enough strength to blow out the heat through the thick dust. Never use this method to cool down your notebook. For short term, it might help; for long term, it hurts. Some of my friends, they open out their windows during winter, use the cold wind to cool the notebook. It really really helps. But can you withstand the cold wind which also blown to you?

Just now i read an article about new type of notebook cooler. This notebook cooler using new type of aerodynamic which increase effectiveness and cooling area.

NotePal Infinite by Cooler Master

I think this notebook cooler will help better than the traditional notebook cooler in cooling down your notebook.

For more information about this notebook cooler, please refer here

So, watch out your notebook temperature. Dont let them burnt down, it might cost you a lot to repair.

For those who want to know the notebook temperature, can use this programme (only for notebook)

I’ve just got this new notebook 2 days ago. Unfortunately it is not belonged to me. It is belonged to my sister. I’ve a chance to test out this machine (i think i should grade it mainstream or mid-end performance notebook).
Let’s me list out all the specifications of this machine.
